Before you start

  • Allow about 10 minutes.
  • → Each section has its own intro screen with an optional practice question. Take a breath there — the next timer only starts when you press Start.
  • → You'll need sound for the recall section (headphones are best) and a keyboard for typing.
  • → Results show a section-by-section breakdown and a full review with explanations and transcripts.

London Ambulance Service describes a “45-minute assessment to evaluate your situation judgement, comprehension, recall, and typing skills” for its 999 call handler role. Other ambulance, NHS 111 and fire control rooms use different combinations and there is no national format. This mock is original practice in that style — it isn't any service's actual test, and pass marks aren't published.

Best on a computer with a keyboard. The typing section works on a phone, but real typing tests are taken on a keyboard, so your speed here won't reflect it.

About the Mock Assessment test

London Ambulance Service describes its 999 call handler selection as including a 45-minute assessment of situational judgement, comprehension, recall and typing. This mock puts those four skills together in timed sections, one after another, so you can practise switching between them under time pressure.

There is no national format and each ambulance service, NHS 111 provider and fire control room sets its own tests, so treat this as practice in that style rather than a copy of any real test. The free taster gives you a few items from each section; the full mock runs for about 45 minutes with a section-by-section breakdown and a full review.
